Lights for King George V Oval, Glenorchy

What the Tasmanian Liberals will do:

Provide up to $650,000 towards the installation of lights at the KGV Oval in Glenorchy.

King George V Oval in Glenorchy is one of Tasmania’s major sporting venues.

It is the home ground of the Glenorchy Football Club and the Glenorchy Cricket Club and hosts a number of major matches each year.

KGV Oval is also used for other sports, concerts and other events, and as a multi-purpose function venue.

The ground is around the same size as the MCG and there is a total spectator capacity of around 20,000.

The Glenorchy Football Club has been lobbying for government assistance towards the installation of lights at KGV Oval for many years.

The Liberal Party made an election commitment in 2006 to assist the Club in installing lights.

What the Liberals will do:

A Hodgman Liberal Government will provide up to $650,000 for the installation of new lights at KGV Oval.

Why this policy is needed
Lights would enhance facilities at KGV for both senior and junior sports.

SFL preliminary, grand final and representative games will be played at KGV next season, and the Southern Football League will have its administrative base there.

The Glenorchy Football Club has been working hard to upgrade the facility and the Cresswell-Beakley Stand was recently rebuilt after fire damage with bipartisan support.  Lights would greatly enhance the venue.
