Police Workers Compensation
What the Tasmanian Liberals will do:
Workers compensation step down provisions not to apply for police officers injured in the line of duty.
The Tasmanian Liberals believe that where Tasmania Police officers are injured in the course of duty of upholding the law consistent with his or her Oath, the ‘step down’ provisions of workers’ compensation do not apply.
In other words, if a police officer is shot on duty, his or her salary does not get reduced after 12 month anniversary of the injury. The step down provisions would still apply to police officers in other cases, e.g. where they sustained a workplace injury not connected with keeping the peace. The Police Association has welcomed this Tasmanian Liberal Policy, but the Bartlett Labor Government used its numbers in Parliament to defeat this proposed change to the law.
